# Make your first transaction

This page takes you from an empty wallet to a confirmed transfer in three steps. You need a wallet with [QMS Testnet added](/onboarding/add-qms-network.md).

1. [Get test tokens](#id-1.-get-test-tokens) from the faucet.
2. [Send QMS](#id-2.-send-qms) to another address.
3. [Find the transaction](#id-3.-find-it-in-the-explorer) in the block explorer.

## 1. Get test tokens

Transactions on QMS Testnet cost gas, paid in QMS. The faucet gives you test QMS for free.

1. In your wallet, copy your address. It starts with `0x`. Use the wallet's copy button rather than typing it.
2. Open <https://faucet.testnet.qms.finance>.
3. Paste your address into the field, complete the captcha, and request tokens.
4. Wait for the tokens to arrive. They usually appear within about ten seconds, the average time between blocks on QMS Testnet. Block times vary, as on any proof-of-work chain, so the wait is occasionally several times longer. The faucet sends 10 QMS per request and allows four requests in 24 hours.

If your balance does not change, paste your address into the search field at <https://testnet.qmsscan.io>. If the transfer is there, your wallet has not refreshed yet: switch to another network and back, or close the wallet and open it again. If it is not there, check <https://status.testnet.qms.finance> and see [Troubleshooting Connections](/onboarding/troubleshooting-connections.md).

Test QMS has no value and cannot be exchanged for anything.

## 2. Send QMS

1. Open your wallet and make sure that QMS Testnet is the active network.
2. Click **Send**.
3. Enter the receiving address, or scan its QR code. Do not type an address by hand; a single wrong character sends the tokens to an address that nobody controls.
4. Enter the amount. Leave some QMS for the fee; the wallet adds the suggested fee to the transaction.
5. Confirm. The transaction is included in the next block, usually within about ten seconds.

If you have no second address to send to, send a small amount to your own address. The transaction is real, costs a fee, and appears in the explorer like any other.

## 3. Find it in the explorer

1. In your wallet, open the transaction and copy its hash, a `0x` value of 66 characters. Your address works too.
2. Paste it into the search field at <https://testnet.qmsscan.io>.
3. The transaction page shows the status, the block that included it, the sender and the recipient, the amount, and the fee. **Success** means the transfer is complete.

Open the block that included your transaction. On QMS, blocks are produced by solving optimization problems rather than by hashing. The block page shows the QUBO instance, the specific problem a miner solved to produce this block, and the solution that won the block.

Once a transaction is confirmed, it cannot be cancelled or returned.
